Impermanent Collection is a personal and collective response to the Whitney Museum of American Art and selected works from the permanent collection. Created as a performance and video installation for the museum’s Lower Gallery, the project brings attention to how the performer is experienced in the context of a museum and the impermanence of the spectator.

Gerard & Kelly collaborated with Brock Labrenz to make a series of video portraits, each capturing a single performer alone in the museum’s gallery performing near a chosen work from the permanent collection. These films were animated in two live events that included a musical performance by ICE | International Contemporary Ensemble.
