Performance view, Park Avenue Armory, New York, NY, January 2009.

Situated in the former dining hall of the Seventh Regiment, Last Dance investigates loss as constitutive of the formation of subjectivity and the formality of every performance.  Three performers enter an empty stage and recite the liner notes to Donna Summer’s end-of-disco lamentation. With a single microphone and some choreography, the performers recover dances they’ve almost forgotten or never performed and recount through various lists the episodes in their lives, one after another, that happened in time, and by which each retrospectively claims he has lived a life.

This work was presented by Park Avenue Armory as part of an artistic residency there from 2008-10.
