BRIGHT HOURS
Pioneer of modern architecture, Le Corbusier paces in his studio in search of new ideas. In flashes he remembers a brief but intense encounter with Josephine Baker. Bright Hours speculates on the iconic performer’s impact on the architect’s practice — their affair typically a footnote in both their stories — offering instead a narrative in which Baker transforms Le Corbusier’s vision of form and color. The architect’s masterpiece, the Cité Radieuse in Marseille, stands in as a cruise ship floating on the horizon, suspending norms and boundaries in the queer temporality of the maritime.
