THE LESSING IS MIRACLE

A neon sculpture pulses to the rhythm of a koan-like text: The lessing is miracle. Drawn from a fragment of a handwritten score by composer Julius Eastman (1940–1990), the illuminated phrase flickers with possible interpretations — at once a directive to musicians, a meditation on dematerialization, and a reflection on mortality. Eastman’s layered practice, embedding spirituality and politics within the frameworks of abstraction and minimalism, serves as a touchstone for Gerard & Kelly’s own approach to art-making.
